Jacques no GP3R - 40ª edição

It is with great pleasure that the president of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, Mr.Joël St-Pierre and the general manager Francois Bordeleau, along with Alan Labrosse, confirmed that Jacques Villeneuve will participate in the 40th edition of the Grand-Prix, on August 14,15,16.

As for last weekend at the Tide 250 held in St-Eustache, Jacques Villeneuve will drive the Ford Fusion no. 7 Tide/Wal-Mart of team Jacombs Racing.

Jacques has the opportunity to race in all three major events in Quebec as two weeks after his participation in Trois-Rivières, he will take part in the NASCAR Nationwide race at circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montréal Ile Notre-Dame.

Jacques confirmed the news prior to leaving to Brazil where he will be on track in a local stock-car race this weekend.

For Jacques, coming back to Trois-Rivières is a return to his source. His last visit to the street track of Trois-Rivières goes back to 1993 in Formula Atlantic. He will again team up with Andrew Ranger, the leader in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Championship.

"I had the chance to race in Trois-Rivières early in my career and I am very happy to go back, specially that I will drive a very competitive car. I would love to be successful for the occasion" Jacques told Flagworld last Sunday in St-Eustache.

"No doubt that Jacques Villeneuve being confirmed to participate in the 40th edition is very important news, added Francois Bordeleau. We started discussion months ago and we are very happy with the final outcome. We wish to salute Alan Labrosse for is precious assistance in making the deal possible."

"He has all the merit to have concluded a deal for Jacques to drive a very compêtitive car. That convinced Villeneuve to come back to Trois-Rivières. We will be proud to welcome him back home." concluded Bordeleau.

A lot of history

The Villeneuve family has a rich history at the Grand-Prix de Trois-rivières. First it was Gilles Villeneuve who won here beating Formula One champion James Hunt in summer of 1976.

It was soon after that victory that he was invited to test in F1. For his part Jacques Villeneuve (uncle) took part in 16 presentation of the GP3R and claimed five victories. Jacques (the son) raced for Team Players, the same team who offered him his chance in CART and win in spectacular fashion the famous Indy 500 in 1995. One of the grand stand bears the famous VILLENEUVE name in Trois-Rivières.

The event management is very proud of this confirmation today. Jacques’ presence in the 40th edition is his way to recognize the importance of the Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières in the development of young local talented racers.
